Check the status of an e-signature with OCSP

The verification is carried out through an OCSP client program (OCSP Requestor) that connects to the B-trust OCSP server (OCSP Responder) at: http://ocsp.b-trust.org. An example of an OCSP client is the ocss command of the OpenSSL library.

The OCSP client sends a request for verification of the signature status to the OCSP server and receives a response signed by the Validation Authority. The answer contains information about the status of the verified electronic signature certificate, the period of validity of the received response and serves as an evidence.

If you do not use an OCSP application, you can use a certificate revocation list (CRL). To determine the status of a signature, download the latest CRL list and upload it to your application. This type of verification of signature status is just as reliable, but takes more time.

More information about OCSP can be found at: www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2560.txt
